The General Meeting of Shareholders of Koninklijke BDU Holding approved Thursday evening, July 13, the takeover of BDU by Beheermaatschappij Em. de Jong. De Jong, in cooperation with its business units Telstar Mediagroep and Janssen/Pers Rotatiedruk, is taking over Koninklijke BDU. This acquisition fits within Em. de Jong's strategy to achieve further growth of its publishing and printing activities. Through cooperation, strengths are combined. This creates more scale between Em. de Jong, Telstar Mediagroep and BDUmedia that is needed for further innovations in the local media portfolio.
Em. de Jong operates domestically from Baarle-Nassau and has branches in Belgium and Germany, as well as sales offices in Denmark, England, France and Ireland. They process about 300,000 tons of paper annually within about 60,000 orders. Not only in Baarle-Nassau, but also at Mercator Press, Dessain Printing, Jungfer Druckerei und Verlag GmbH, Janssen/Pers and Kampert-Nauta. This makes the business the largest player in the European market for retail printing. The business employs a total of some 1,300 people, making it considerably larger than BDU.
Koninklijke BDU consists of two main divisions: BDU media (approx. 140 employees) and BDU print (approx. 40 employees). BDU media is characterized as a publisher with a strong vision of local reach. With approximately 40 news brands (in addition to newspapers also magazines and online platforms) BDU media offers local and regional news, mainly in the provinces of North Holland (south of the North Sea Canal) South Holland, Utrecht and Gelderland. BDU print is a full-service printing company, operating five days 24/7, not only for its own titles, but also for third parties.
