The "Riwald" brand will be positioned globally by ArcelorMittal in the recycling/downstream market. The acquisition enables the family-owned Riwald to further develop its state-of-the-art recycling technologies and ArcelorMittal to strengthen its proposition in the downstream market.
Riwald is a leading player in the circular metal recycling market. With two processing sites in the Netherlands, it has a global lead in terms of sustainability, knowledge and innovation.
With its state-of-the-art machinery in Almelo, Riwald converts metal waste into fully reusable high-quality metals. In Beverwijk they have a 'deep-see' export location.
ArcelorMittal is the second largest steel producer in the world and is listed on the stock exchanges of New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Luxembourg and Spain. Their ambition is to be emission-neutral by 2050. Metal recycling is an essential part of this.
The merger gives Riwald the opportunity to further expand its lead and grow internationally. It gives it opportunities to set up its other recycling companies according to the most modern standards. The 'Riwald' brand will be retained and further rolled out globally by ArcelorMittal.
Riwald is a family business built by the three Huzink brothers. After the retirement of Richard Huzink in 2013, Ewald and Gert Huzink successfully continued to grow the company. They see the acquisition as an important recognition of their years of investment in sustainability within the industry. "It is wonderful to transfer a business that started recycling more than 30 years ago to one of the most successful businesses in this industry.
Ewald and Gert Huzink: 'At the start of the process we had to make a choice between Taurus Corporate Finance and parties from the Amsterdam Zuidas. We are glad we chose Taurus. They guided us professionally through the entire process and ensured that we came to the table with a selected number of global strategists. ArcelorMittal immediately stood out because we share the industry's focus on sustainability. A sales process with such a party required quite a lot. It is good to be able to rely on your advisers in discussions in London, Amsterdam and on site with representatives from England, France, Germany and Scotland, among others. During the final investigations, the team at Taurus ensured a smooth process full-time, and this left us with time for business. Eastern sobriety combined with international experience proved to be the key to success.'
The Taurus team thanks Ewald, Gert, their colleagues and their other advisers for the trust placed in us and for the smooth cooperation.
