De Streekboer works towards a better, more sustainable and fairer food system by creating short and transparent food chains in the Northern Netherlands. With the growth investment from Stichting ifund, the start-up will further expand its operations in the north of the country.
De Streekboer was founded in 2015 by Sandra Ronde. Through the platform, consumers can order vegetables, fruit, meat, dairy, bread and more directly from the local farmer. The groceries are then delivered to their homes or can be picked up at one of more than 30 pickup points in the northern Netherlands. Through these activities, the company contributes to a better food system by increasing transparency, educating consumers, reducing transportation miles and food waste, and paying farmers a fair price for their products.
With the investment, De Streekboer wants to increase the home delivery area and expand the number of pickup points in Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe. In this way, the company wants to reach even more consumers and be able to connect farmers.
Stichting ifund's goal is to continue the long-term viability for people on earth by encouraging the transition to a sustainable society, in which people generate renewable energy, produce organic food and have access to clean water on a regional and local scale. Foundation ifund invests in impact-first startups with an investment usually between €200,000 and €1 million.
