Last year, Coöperatieve Zuidelijke Aan- en Verkoopvereniging U.A.(CZAV) acquired a majority stake in Belgian-based Casibeans BV.(Casibeans). This started a strategic partnership after years of cooperation to develop opportunities in vegetable proteins.
Casibeans is a trading company specialized in buying and selling high-quality pulses for the food industry. The family-owned company has a strong reputation and leading position in the pulses market and is based in Melsele, Belgium.
Termont & Thomaes B.V.(T&T) is a company specialized in pulses, grains and seeds. Based in Biervliet, the business has over 100 years of experience in cleaning and processing these products.
CZAV and Casibeans were already working closely with T&T for this purpose. As of May 2, 2024, the three parties will together further integrate and expand the chains of locally grown crops: from field to food industry.
For years CZAV has had experience in growing legumes and provides growers with knowledge and advice. With the newly acquired activities in conditioning, cleaning and processing T&T will be prepared for the industry. Casibeans has the extensive network and full-service solutions to market these local legumes.
With this follow-up step, CZAV is anticipating expected future developments. From the food industry, the demand for locally grown products, including legumes, is increasing. The cooperative aims to facilitate its members as much as possible with the development and opportunities for vegetable proteins. Through the participations in Casibeans and T&T, CZAV offers its members additional opportunities. Not only in the form of extensive (cultivation) knowledge, but also access to the European and even global market.
Nathalie van Hellenberg Hubar assisted CZAV and Casibeans in this transaction.
